CERAMICS BY SCOTT JONES

March 8 - April 5, 1998

Ice Box, 1995, 17 x 17 x 3 inches

by Scott Jones

Colorful ceramic creations, including, objects depicting local scenes, are the work of Scott Jones of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. A versatile artist who has had nine solo exhibitions since 1980, the show will contain ceramic wall-platters, decorative vessels and whimsical drawings.

Modern expressions of room scenes, cityscapes, Amish countryside and lyrical abstracts embellish his ceramics. Although the wall platter is his favored style, he also produces ornamental pots, and Pennsylvania-German-style redware pottery. His drawings use different media including pencil, watercolor and paper to express his cartoonish style.

A graduate of the M.F.A. program at Kent State University, Jones has won a prestigious Individual Fellowship Grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. He is the founder and former project director of the annual "Strictly Functional Pottery National."
