Shirts, birthday cakes, garden tools, and spoons take on a profound presence in the paintings of George Fischer, one of the few still life painters today who convincingly paints mundane objects of our everyday American lives on canvas, creating unforgettable images that seem to belong in another world entirely.

Over fifteen works by the artist are on view at the Frye Art Museum Nov. 7 through Jan. 4, 1998. Fischer's work, currently represented by a gallery in New Mexico, recently caught the eye of Frye Art Museum Executive Director Richard West. West took the initiative to bring this emerging artist to Seattle for the first time. A sampling of pieces from various collectors and from the New Mexico Gallery are now being gathered for this one-time opportunity to view the enigmatic works of a significant contemporary American artist. This exhibition is presented and organized by the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, Wa with assistance from the Gerald Peters Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
