Cahoon Museum Announces New Director

The board of trustees for the Cahoon Museum of American Art has appointed Cindy Nickerson of Centerville, MA as the museum's new director/curator. Nickerson has a master's degree in art history from the University of Denver and a bachelor's degree in art from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is a former employee of the Cape Cod Times, where she reported on the Cape's art scene for many years. She also curated "A Century of Impressionism on Cape Cod," an exhibition which ran at the Cape Museum of Fine Arts in Dennis, MA last summer. (left: Cindy Nickerson)

"I've always been a bit smitten with the Cahoon Museum," Nickerson says. "As an art writer, covering a show there was one of my favorite assignments. I was charmed by the old house as a setting for Ralph and Martha Cahoon's folk art paintings and other works of American art. I feel thrilled and privileged to now share in guiding the development of this gem of a museum."

Nickerson assumed the position on March 20, 2000.
