La Conner -- Self Contained
"La Conner -- Self Contained," featuring glass sculpture by Montana artist John Buck, opens at the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner March 10, 2000.
Since
the early 1970s, John Buck's work has been concerned with the natural and
political environment. While artist in residence at Pilchuck Glass School
in 1997 and 1998, he created jar sculptures inspired by memories of elementary
school science projects. The resulting blown and lampworked glass pieces
explore the growth of plants and root systems in jars. "Self Contained"
presents these works -- the Pilchuck jar series, and a selection of woodblock
prints, through May 28, 2000. (left: Pilchuck Glass Jar (avocado),

The public is invited to view the exhibition at a reception on Friday, March 10, 2000, 6-9 p.m.
